About a week ago I forwarded my resume to a friend for a Finance Analyst position at a fairly large company. I ended up getting an interview yesterday with the Finance Manager and Operations Manager. I believe that I got the interview 90% based on the referral from my friend. I was called in for the interview with only one day notice and had very little time to prepare. However, today I got a call back for a second interview on Monday.
Now the thing is I don't think the first interview went particularly well. It was probably 75% behavioural, and 25% technical/knowledge based. I prepared a little bit, but none of the questions I prepared for were asked. So a lot of the answers I gave were 'freestyle', and my examples were pretty vague. I feel as though the job would be great for me, but I am under qualified. My educational background is accounting, and I only have approx. 1.5 years of relevant work experience (9 months as an auditor with a big 4 accounting firm, and about 9 months as an assistant controller at a small manufacturing company). While I am familiar with a lot of the functions this role has to offer, I believe the Finance Manager was able to determine that my experience was lacking. I guess I was able to convey my willingness to learn in lieu of the practical experience I was missing.
The second interview on Monday will be with a General Manager, HR Director, and the Finance Manager again. I am a bit nervous about this interview because I am afraid I will be faced with technical questions that I will not be able to answer. I got some intel from my friend and apparently 3 candidates were short-listed.
I think the biggest things going for me are:
- A referral from my friend in the organization
- Big 4 experience (Mutual Client)
Any advise on how I should spend my weekend preparing for this interview?
