I have worked for CIBC, Scotiabank and a credit union as a teller, helping customers deposit and withdraw money, cross-selling products and reaching sales goals. I have also worked for a corporate agency doing accounts receivable and collections over the phone.
Right now I am working for an insurance firm doing:
- some underwriting
- following procedures, rules and regulations before issuing policies for clients.
- Processing payments
- Reviewing monthly billing with clients
- attending monthly team meetings regarding sales numbers and new policy changes
Every month, I also have audit reviews based on my work with a supervisor (which I do not like very much).
So I have worked for a few financial institutions and insurance company and was wondering if accountancy is similar to any of the roles I've held. I am planning to leave my current job and go back to school and accounting was something I was looking at. However, I do not know if I'll enjoy it very much if I did not enjoy the positions I've had previously.
1) Would an accounting job be similar to what I did before?
2) How different in studying accounting and working as an accountant?
Thanks for reading.
