Want to do engineering, but don't want to be stuck in a cubicle all day

Mechanical Engineering
Electrical Engineering

..are all fields that I am really interested in, but I don't want to be chained to a cubicle. The thought of doing Revit, Solidworks, AutoCad, simulation programs all day long isn't attractive. I don't mind doing those, but not all the time. Now I know in Civil and Chemical engineering (plants, oil fields) you will get to visit job sites, but I am a little more interested in the design of mechanics and electrical products. Which engineering fields provide the most flexibility between cubicle, lab work and site visits?

An alternative I have been thinking about is Geology/Mining engineering-something that involves research outside. What are some options to find balance?
