I experienced real bullying at my last job which I had to leave as I could not handle it any longer.
I was ostracized as if I had a disease, made fun of, asked all kinds of inappropriate questions, the lunchroom would fall silent when I entered, never included in breaks with others, not spoken to unless necessary, and generally treated like a disease. I even had two supervisors laugh in my face as they were laughing about me with others when she saw me tearing up.
I have many more examples of what went on. I was made to cry on several occasions.
I saw HR several times and management about this but to no resolve.
I suffer from mental health issues so I took sick leave and then quit. I absolutely loved that job.
I cannot afford a lawyer but want my rights upheld and damages awarded. The Human Rights Tribunal threw my appeal out because I am not a visible minority, gay, etc. I am waiting on the Ministry of Labour but I'm not sure I will get a hearing. Legal Aid cannot help me because it is a civil matter but there is a local university legal clinic that can.
What are the ramifications of me taking this company for a hearing or to court? I really was bullied and will never be paid what I was at this company. Can they countersue me even if I have no money? This has upset me and has caused another gap in my resumé.
Bullying is not just in the schools, it is in the workplaces too. Especially when you are working with twentysomethings. No offense, but this group does have issues.
