When would one consider themselves ready? I have my accounting designation and I've been working in a senior position below the CFO for 5 years and I'm ready for a job change.
Does it make sense to start applying to Controller positions for smaller/mid size companies? Or is it the case that you usually apply somewhere as say an Assistant Controller and be groomed for the Controller position and/or work yourself up from somewhere else? I just don't want to be in over my head in thinking I can take on such a role when it may be blatantly obvious to someone else that I'm not experienced enough. I feel that I'm ready and qualified but what should my expectations be realistically?
