Hi,
I'm 22 and I'm in my fourth year of University in the sociology department at McMaster. I suffered from an injury and chronic pain in my first to third year. I wasn't able to deal with it well and because of that didn't start getting As until third year second semester, forcing me to take a fifth year. Things are looking good though. I'm getting all A's and am even being sent to a conference to present my independent research.
I've always wanted to pursue business and was thinking of applying to the McMaster MBA co -op out of undergrad. My reasoning is that I'm a competitive candidate for sociological academia, but my chances at decent business work experience are slim. I aspire to work for a management consulting firm. To that end, a co-op MBA may help me gain that presumably unattainable experience.
Also, I was wondering if it may be wise to apply for Ivey's HBA - being that my marks and EC's will be great in my fourth and fifth year.
I'm not sure what is a better choice. Both programs are of equal monetary value, but what is the better ROI? My speculation is that if I can get into the HBA, I'll be far older than most - I'll be 24 years old - but my maturity may help in securing a decent job straight out of the program. Will my age and previous BA degree be detrimental or positive for my resume, in so being that I've read management consulting firms prefer younger applicants.
In the context of my age, previous academic flaws - poor marks year 1-3, great marks years 4 and 5 - and lack of experience, what would be the best choice?
Thanks,
Henry
