A group that advocates for small businesses is worried Canada’s temporary foreign worker program is getting a bad rap.
The Canadian Federation of Independent Business says the program is essential for their members.
Alberta Director Richard Truscott tells 660News, everybody else benefits.
He says, “One of the underlying stories that we haven’t heard enough about is the fact that Canadian jobs actually depend on the temporary foreign worker program because without access to qualified people, if they’ve done everything they can to find Canadians, without access to qualified workers, then those businesses may be in jeopardy, certainly other jobs in those businesses may be in jeopardy.”
Truscott says Canadians just don’t want to work in certain jobs, so temporary foreign workers are needed to fill the gaps.
He acknowledges there have been concerns some larger companies take advantage of foreign workers, who often don’t speak out for themselves.
