Specifically, full-time unpaid internships. First off, a little about myself. I am in 3rd year, studying Econ in Toronto. I actively applied for internships this summer, e.g., reached out to investment banks, applied to literally every finance, econ, and capital market job posting I saw, only to obtain 2 offers. One in midmarket boutique M&A, the other one in Institutional sales. The sad part is that both these positions are unpaid, and both full-time, 4 months. Even worse, one of the offers I got was from a firm I interned at previously, and that was an unpaid gig. So if I take the institutional sales role, I would have done 8 months of unpaid work for them .
I wonder what do you guys think about unpaid internships? Have you guys ever had them and were they worth the effort for you?
