Hi,
I think I might have inadvertently lied about my experience in applying for a job. It all revolves around what a brokerage firm means - and all this time based on what I think a brokerage firm is (see below) I got an interview for this Monday stating in my cover letter that I have experience working in a brokerage firm. question is would you still go for the interview even if your definition of what a brokerage firm is may be a whole a different type of brokerage firm you applied to?
The whole job ad doesn't specifically say what type of brokerage business experience required, so that's why I applied...
So I applied to a position where one of the requirements states experience in the 'brokerage business' is required.
From my understanding a broad definition of brokerage business means acting as the intermediary between customers and vendors where you bring together these two parties for the sake of completing a transaction.
Just like how real estate works where your agent brings you all these people - mortgage agents, bankers, etc..to facilitate the transaction.
Ok, great! I have that experience in a brokerage format company working for a logistics company where we bring together common carriers to present to customers and negotiate contract terms for customers
But according to wikipedia - brokerage firm is defined as a financial institution that facilitates the buying and selling of financial securities between a buyer And seller..
So now Learning of this definition after the fact , knowing that my experience has nothing to do with financial securities, would you still go for the interview ??
The company i applied to is in financial services industry dealing with trading stocks , I applied for their accounting role they have available and my experience is also in accounting but just not in the same industry (I'm in transportation doing Accounting and admin) however the duties they listed on the job ad matches everything with what i do now.
Should i still go with it? Partly because I have some of the qualifications and just got the experience in a brokerage firm wrong??
Please help.. Need to know if I'm screwed or not.. :S
