Was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what the actually (if any) legal obligations are to an employment contract.
I realize that every contract will be different and will vary depending on what the actual contract sets out as the terms etc, however I was wondering whether there are any guidelines about whether an employee can break off a contract early? I would assume that the power lies in the hands of an employee to accept work that is better paying, more suitable, or whatever the case may be if proper notice is given. I've tried looking up Ministry FAQs on the topic but can't find anything concrete as it relates to whether an employee can leave a job if offered another/better position without running into any legal hiccups. Also, I'm not sure if it matters but in this particular case both jobs are technically part-time shift work. Thanks in advance and if a little more background is needed I can try to fill the gaps.
