Networking with strangers?

Hi guys, I'm a business student looking for some advice.

I'm working part time in DT Toronto.

I get a one hour lunch break and I want to utilize it as much as I can. I'm interested in finance and consulting roles and am looking to network.

I feel like there's a wealth of information around me by being around professionals (apart from those in my office) . How can I approach someone I don't know and spark up a conversation? A lot of people I see in Toronto PATH while having lunch appear to be in great positions similar to what I'd be interested in.

I know this is a weird way of networking compared to traditional campus events and personal references, so I'd like to know if this is feasible and if it is, how to approach this method, as it requires a lot of guts.

For example, I'm sitting having lunch in PATH and noticed that two people beside me work at a bank I'm interested in, but I have no idea how to approach them without being nosey.
