Contract of employement required (in Quebec)?

Hi there,

I have a question for you all, since I been searching and reading pretty much the labour act of Quebec, but I can't even find the awnser. I have a friend who works in a hotel at the restaurant. However, it went under (bankrupted) and bought over by a new company. However, my friend have kept this position throughout all that. The new owner have decided to rent out the restaurant to another management that will only take care of the restaurant. Since my friend worked at the restaurant, he was "transfered" under the new management and no longer part of the hotel as previous stated (keeping all the seniority and benefits).

Now the thing is, the new management started to cut out benefits, which is strange. Upon further inquiries, my friend was not "transfered", but "terminated" by the hotel without any notice nor paperwork and "rehired" by the new management of the restaurant, without also any paperwork or notice.

I know when I sign up for a new job, I have to fill alot of paperwork and so forth, but my friend didn't do any of those, which is technically hired as a new job. Is that legal to do so? Does Quebec requires a contract of employment?

That's about it. I hope you can awnser that question...

Ju Leon...
