- throughout university i worked in the wireless industry. sales, admin/management stuff, etc.
- last year i graduated from a top canadian university (accounting program) with mediocre grades
- did not get recruited for CA designation
- shortly after, started working for an investor's institution. entry level contract finance job. not customer service or anything like that. worked with internal banking software dealing with loans, mortgages, etc.
- contract finished, and started working my current job
- financial analyst in the wireless industry. revenue assurance is the closest description to what i do http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revenue_assurance
- decent pay, i enjoy it. enjoy the work, enjoy the industry.
- also helped with some minor bookkeeping and cash management tasks in current job. do not enjoy it.
- want to move forward, not sure what to do:
- stick with the current job, and keep applying to higher financial roles in the wireless industry? moving up within the company is hard because of the way we are set up. not impossible but it will take much longer than moving to a different company.
- do an mba (either now or in a year or two) with an emphasis in the tech industries?
- do the cma or cga designation now? not really optimistic or excited about this as i never really enjoyed accounting. although what i do now may be considered an "accounting job". with the cma, id also have to do a couple courses that i missed in school.
- do the cfa designation now? from my understanding, cfa's mostly work with investments and there isn't much flexibility in moving your career in different directions. i enjoyed finance courses over accounting ones whilst in school. my older job gives me some experience in finance and i guess part of my current job does as well.
-any other ideas? long story short - i want to work closely with revenue/profits/performance in the wireless industry while making a lot of money. what do i do now?
