Translator career or teaching English abroad

I don't hear much about Translators as a career, but it seems like something that will be in demand for a long time. I currently speak two languages, but wouldn't mind learning another.

As for teaching Englsih abroad, I am not talking about the JET programme. But something that can lead to a career. The JET only let's you teach in Japan for no longer than 7 years.

Anyone have experience in either and made it as a career?
