When I was a kid I like everyone else dreamed of being an astronaut/Indiana Jones/racecar driver/paleontologist etc. Then the reality of life settles in, and most everyone I know works a boring job they tolerate, does their one vacation a year, lives in an average place and are racing each other to become their parents.
I'm probably more fortunate than most in that I've travelled all over the world with my job, but the downside is absolutely ridiculous work schedules, technical homelessness and zero stability and long term friends/family relationships.
That said who is the most interesting person you know? People who have a great job, good work life balance, and generally has it "all together" but who's job is also wildly interesting and basically an adventure?
For example, an acquaintance of mine who was about 4 years ahead of me in engineering always raced, and eventually built it up as a business, and now travels the globe in the mid level race circuit. His other business basically finances it, and he's lucky to break even on the racing part, but still, a cool life. Anyone else have similar types of people in their lives?
