Irrelevant experience vs gaps

Just updating my cv lately and thinking about this...

Perhaps affect more so for people newly working or switching career,..

It's better to not list irrelevant experience (if you're cv isn't completely empty:) ) to the jobs you're applying to, sure. But then doing that, will also leave gaps in your working/studying past history, which is no good, so what should I do? What I have now is keep that irrelevant exp listed, but keep it short. Just 1 line, with company name, pos, date, and main duty.
