Is it true what you hear about Dubai?

I often hear how companies in Dubai pay a lot of money to North Americans to work for them. I'm wondering if most of this isn't just a myth, because the numbers I hear seem oddly high sometimes.

What do you guys think? What are the degrees and experience mostly researched from companies there(if there's truth to anything I've heard).
