I have recently been hired by a financial services provider. In my welcome package email, they want me to bring in my passport or birth certificate on the first day stating that they are required for completing medical forms.
The company is very well established and known. I honestly don't expect them to misuse my information because they have strict confidentiality policies when dealing with employees' and members' information.
But, my passport information is not something I feel comfortable handing over. And I also do not want to argue with their requirements because of my financial situation ATM.
So, essentially, I want to know if asking employees for passport information is normal by big companies in the finance, insurance, mortgage etc sector. Should I be worried?
As much as I'd like to provide them with my birth certificate instead, I do not have access to it.
Cheers.
