Question for a newbie applying within

So I have been working at a new company for 2 months, just an accounts payable position, and a new position just opened up in the accounting department which is a step up from my current position. (There is no official posting for the job, just word of mouth)

I was wondering if it would look bad asking to be considered for the new position when I have only been here for 2 months and have not completed the probation period yet.

I am very tempted, but I am worried if I will make a bad impression...
