I've always been a huge movie fan and was curious what it was like to work in this industry. I'm not talking about becoming an Actor, but was more interested in the production-side of things, such as video editing, effects editing, camera work, post-production, etc.
I am from Vancouver, BC, so one of the most popular schools to get into is Vancouver Film School. I just don't have the money to do it and I am a bit reluctant to invest in it unless I have a better career outlook-which I am trying to find out now. Then there's also a smaller school called Visual Art and Design School in Vancouver that has a program on animation, something that would work well if you want to work for Pixar or Disney.
If I just graduated from high school, I probably would have just gone into an Arts or Film school and pursued what I enjoyed. I loved the creative side of things. But I was also worried about not having a 'degree' in something, so I did that instead and ended up working for financial institutions. Well it's been a few years after grad that I jumped from one bank to another, one job to another just to earn a paycheque and I actually want to pursue a career and build on something I enjoy.
Any one from the film-industry or animation industry (like Pixar) that can shed some light on someone looking into getting into this field? What is the entry-level salary I am looking at?
In my current job, I will be making around $50,000. How much of a difference in income would it be to become a animator, video editor, production, set-designer, etc?
