About a year ago I was with one company whose upper management didn't really get to know me or see what I do. They didn't know that I often stayed overtime without pay so that the next person on shift wouldn't have to deal with leftover crap to start her mornings with (but she knew because she saw when I clocked out, lol.) They didn't give a care when they last-minute asked (made) me stay 1.5 hours at the end of one 12-hour shift in order to solve their accounting issues which could have resolved by anyone else, or my manager who is paid a manager's salary to deal with these sort of things, but they needed it done right that night so it was me and I did it unpaid. They didn't know that I personally delivered packages to clients from time to time because they really needed them and my company didn't have a proper delivery service set up at the time.

Earlier this year I got my bare-bones standard bonus & vacation pay, and we parted ways. At the time I was a little worried because I didn't have any solid plans lined up except that I knew who I wouldn't work for.

Fast forward to a few months ago, when I landed in a work environment that works me harder BUT has been enough of a challenge to "weed out" other candidates. The job itself not only pays 10% more than my previous job, but I just received my second bonus for the year (unexpected) and my manager vowed to push for a raise because he doesn't want me to leave. :lol: I basically did the same as what I did at my old company, but had the fortune of a) having a louder, more assertive manager be present when clients were thanking me for my work on their behalf, and b) the other staff must have said nice things about me because I don't ride their ***** and catch their mistakes without reprimanding or faulting them--I just give them a heads up.

Therefore, my style of doing things is to:
1) try to be the best I can be at my own work;
2) pick the right people to work for (those who value what you do);
3) be as nice to everyone (within reason)

What's your experience, perspective or work style?
