At 26, I come from a customer service background and have years of service and sales experience. I've worked in banking, finance and currently insurance, but all job titles have been sales and customer service oriented simply because I only have a Bachelor of Arts. If I don't make a move, I'll top out at around $50,000 unless I make it to a manager role, then it'll be around $60-70,000.
It's just that I've never really had a passion for these jobs and I just needed the money to pay off monthly expenses. Now that I have some money saved up, I'd like to pursue something I am really passionate about.
Of the choices I've researched, programming and skilled trades are both in consideration. I do come from a white collar job, so software programming may be an easier transition based on the physical demands in skilled trades, but I am open to pursuing something that I can have more self-employment opportunities, good career outlook, and stable salary. If it makes any difference, I am in Vancouver, and plan to stay here if possible. For me, it's not really about making $150K-I know you can make that money in Fort Macmurray-but I rather make a bit less living in a place I enjoy. So entry-level jobs available in Vancouver is part of my consideration as well.
Any advice from experts in these fields is greatly appreciated.
