So my company hired 2 engineers, they go around the jobsite taking surveys and they spend their time at the office looking over blue-prints. I was talking to one of them who says he came to Canada 2 years ago and studied at engineering school in India for 4 years. My company pays him $17 an hour, that's less than half of what I'm making right now. Are you joking, who goes to university and spends 4 years in engineering school to make $17 an hour? And please don't tell me that it's because these fellas are from India, why would a canadian engineering student from Toronto get more when a company can get the same level of skill for $17 hour? There's no way in hell a company will pay an engineer $100,000 a year when you can get the same guys for $35,000 a year.
This comes to the conclusion that there's lots of people here in Toronto that go into "careers" that are useless in university/college and then they come whining about not finding work after completion. Do you really want to make money after university guaranteed? Become a cement finisher, a bricklayer or a crane operator, all of these are in short supply and they pay more than $100,000 a year here in Toronto. These also take 3-4 years to learn and you will be working the same week that you finish.
