After finishing my accounting degree from the U of T Rotman Commerce in June, I have been working for a medium sized logistics company in Brampton. It's not an accounting job and I was hired on the basis that I was an university graduate.
My job is in the scheduling department and I have been making a salary of $45,000 plus a rat sh/it amount in various bonuses. Although I love working with my colleagues, the job is dead end with no prospect of ever making it into the management.
Naturally, I have been applying for job for the past 2 months, especially in the accounting field. I have finally succeeded in getting a job offer, but it's from a small private practice accounting firm with a drastically lower compensation.
Basically, it is a small CGA office that specializes in tax advisory works for small businesses and the salary would "start" at $35,000 with no benefit. But experience here would qualify me to get my CGA designation, and I am hoping that I would be able do something bigger and better with a designation and relevant experience.
Do you think I should take this new job?
