Well I've begun my search for a better position as I've pretty much exhausted my ability to grow in my current job. While going through the various advertised positions (IT), I've noticed a disturbing (I think) trend. Many postings state the responsibilities followed by the required qualifications and many times, some these qualifications don't have any bearing on the tasks the successful candidate will be performing. It looks to me like companies are looking for 'jack of all trades' kind of people, yet require them to have targeted certifications, again in fields that don't have any bearing on the responsibilities (at least based on the posting).
What do you guys think about this? Is HR/manager just being lazy and not tailoring the posting to more accurately reflect the position's roles and qualifications? Or are they just using this as a quick way to weed out unqualified candidates? I mean, with all the possible combinations of technologies, certifications and experience, what are the chances of getting a candidate that will satisfy every one of the requirements?
