Anyone have experience working in retail brokerage?
(CIBC Wood Gundy, Scotia Mcleod, RBC Dominion, etc).
I have an interview for a Sales Assistant position with a retail brokerage firm, and I was wondering what the typical career progression path is in these firms.
I have a few friends who have become Financial Advisors at places like Sun Life Financial and Investors Group with no experience at all, I was wondering how these positions differ from being in an Sales Assistant role in a retail brokerage setting.
What sort of salary should I be expecting? Predominately the position seems to be assisting the Financial Advisor with various tasks including marketing (I'm assuming cold-calling), admin and basic financial tasks. I'm not too interested in a career as a Financial Advisor due to the relative instability of income (I've heard horror stories from friends about working at Investors Group and Sunlife), but I'm assuming the backing of a larger retail brokerage has other opportunities in Finance, or that the Financial Advisor position with a retail brokerage has more of a stable income.
Thanks for your help!
